Nitro Car controls

The default bindings, the useful practice shortcuts, and where to change the controls.

Keyboard and mouse

Click inside the game before using the keyboard. The table below describes the default controls shown in the game. If you have changed your bindings, the game’s Settings are the right place to check your current setup.

ActionDefault inputWhat it does
Drive forward / reverseW / SOn the ground, accelerate or reverse. In the air, these keys also change the car’s pitch.
Steer left / rightA / DTurn on the ground and yaw in the air.
BoostLeft mouse / KSpend boost for extra thrust.
JumpRight mouse / SpaceJump; use a second input for an available flip or dodge.
PowerslideShiftLoosen the turn on the ground.
Free air rollShift + steerRoll the car while airborne.
Air roll left / rightQ / ERoll in one direction without holding the free air roll control.

Jumping, dodging, and air roll

The jump button does more than leave the ground. Depending on the car’s state, a second jump input can produce a flip or dodge. Your direction at the moment of the input matters. Practice the sequence in Free Play, where you can reset without interrupting a match.

W and S change pitch while airborne, and A and D change yaw. Hold the free air roll binding to use steering for roll instead, or use Q and E for the dedicated directions. Start with one axis at a time. Learning to land with the wheels pointed at the surface is more useful than adding several rotations to every jump.

Free play ball controls

These practice actions let you work on a touch without driving back to the ball every time. They are part of practice, not a way to reposition the ball during an ordinary competitive match.

KeyPractice action
1Take possession: place the ball just ahead of your car.
2Start a dribble: place the ball on the hood.
3Pass the ball toward your car.
4Launch the ball upward.
BackspaceReset the car and ball to the starting setup.

Use one shortcut, make a touch, and look at the result before resetting. Repeating the same approach is a useful way to find out whether you are hitting the center or the edge of the ball. Combine this with the beginner’s practice routine if the car still feels unfamiliar.

Training controls

In the focused training modes, R retries the current drill and N moves to the next one. The game also shows Retry and Next controls on screen. Use retry to work on the same approach and use next when you want a different situation. Training modes may distinguish a first attempt from later practice attempts, so read the instructions displayed for the drill.

Touch controls on a phone or tablet

The game provides a steering and throttle stick and touch buttons for actions such as boost, jump, powerslide, and ball camera. Hold the action buttons when an action needs to continue. Use Change Controls or Settings to inspect the available touch styles and choose the layout that fits your hands.

A landscape display usually leaves more space for the field and the controls. Fullscreen can also help when it is supported by the browser. If touch controls disappear after a different input device is used, tap the game again and check the game’s hide touch controls preference.

Controllers and rebinding

Connect a controller before or during your session, then open the controller panel or Settings in the game. The exact button labels and available device options depend on what the browser detects. This guide does not assume that every controller uses the same button layout.

Keyboard settings allow more than one binding for supported actions. Select a binding to change it; the settings panel explains how to clear a binding and restore defaults. After making changes, test driving, jumping, boost, and pause in Free Play before starting another match.

If an input does not work

First click inside the game and close any open game menu. Check that the selected key has a binding. For mouse actions, keep the pointer inside the player. If the page is scrolling or your browser is handling the key, the game may not have keyboard focus. The troubleshooting guide covers focus, sound, fullscreen, and loading issues in more detail.
